1986

The tenth anniversary of the Festival of Sydney saw the expansion of already successful program elements. An exciting array of activities took over Hyde Park, including exhibitions, food stalls, craft workshops, music, street theatre, clowns and buskers. The Martin Place Amphitheatre hosted live music, dance, mime and magic throughout the Festival period, and the Domain was again home to free jazz, opera and classical music concerts.

The 10th anniversary of the Festival of Sydney saw the expansion of already successful program elements.

Local audiences got a taste of British theatre with the Footsbarn Theatre, and Gertrude Stein And A Companion performed by Miriam Margolyes and Natasha Morgan. One-man shows abounded with American performer Spalding Gray in Swimming To Cambodia and Malcolm Robertson in his bold interpretation of St Mark’s Gospel.

Celebrating the Festival’s 10th anniversary, a series of recitals were performed at the Pitt Street Congregational Church, a new and exciting music venue for Sydney.
