My Sydney Story:

Easily the most unique experience I had was conducting the Sydney Philharmonia Choirs in Dawn Chorus for the 2009 Sydney Festival.

We arrived before dawn, placed 120 singers on the sand of four prominent Sydney beaches and sang the new day in, to capacity crowds so large that they caused a traffic jam in Mosman at 4am in the morning.

The repertoire ranged from new Australian works to Gorecki and Arvo Pärt, and both the sound of the choir blending with the sounds of nature and the gentle lapping of the waves on the sand combined with the visual beauty of watching the choir start pre-dawn in the dark and slowly emerge was something I will never forget.

It was a truly unique Sydney experience culminating in a massive choir on Bondi Beach.

Only in Sydney!
