Brett Whiteley Studio 2 Raper Street Surry Hills NSW 2010
A rare opportunity to see the internationally acclaimed sitar virtuoso up close, Anoushka Shankar will play her sublime blend of Indian classical and modern music in Brett Whiteley’s studio space and gallery.
Shankar is a world music superstar with nine Grammy nominations to her name. She started studying sitar with her father, Ravi Shankar, when she was eight, with a handmade shortened version of the notoriously difficult instrument.
Ravi Shankar was an inspiration to Whiteley, so it’s fitting that the musician's daughter and protégé perform in the gallery space. Anoushka Shankar will perform under the portrait of her late father, painted by Whiteley in the late 1960s.
This is a one-of-a-kind opportunity to be transported by the queen of sitar in a uniquely relevant setting.
